Derrick Jones Jr. was reportedly lost by the Dallas Mavericks to free agency. While Jones is hardly a household name, he played a crucial role in the Mavs’ most recent NBA Finals success. The 6-foot-5 small forward has reportedly agreed to a $30 million three-year contract, and he will now play for the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris, who seems determined to leave Philly via free agency, is one player who could step in to fill the vacuum left by Jones.

If the Mavs hope to attract Harris to Dallas, though, they may have a difficult task ahead of them. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sixers reporter Keith Pompey claims that the Mavs will face competition from at least three other teams in the market.

Dallas’ route is also a little more difficult than that of the Pistons, Jazz, and Spurs because of the Mavs’ salary cap restrictions.

With the Sixers’ intent on acquiring Paul George, Harris ought to be leaving. The 31-year-old would undoubtedly be interested in rejoining the Pistons, but he would also be open to the idea of moving to San Antonio to play with Victor Wembanyama.

Although Harris’s interest from other clubs is not surprising, it is certain that he will have to accept a big salary decrease from the $180 million contract he signed with the Sixers five years ago.
