DONE DEAL: Preston North End has accepted Sunderland’s bid for Liam Millar. Sunderland will…

Sunderland now know how much one of their summer transfer targets is worth.

The challenging task for new Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris will be to improve the atmosphere at the Stadium of Light,

which was unfriendly after the Black Cats’ disappointing 2023–24 campaign that saw them finish in a pitiful 16th place.

Under Michael Beale‘s leadership and briefly under Mike Dodds’,

Sunderland’s youthful team lacked any kind of spirit and performed poorly as a result.

That will surely change, though, as former youth coach Le Bris has the skills necessary to bring out the best in a young team.

If Sunderland wants to move up the table and have a chance to be promoted in the 2024–2025 season,

they must turn to more seasoned attackers.

A man with a promising EFL record is their objective, but they won’t be able to inexpensively entice him to the Stadium of Light.

Liam Millar, a Sunderland target, is valued at £2.1 million.
Liam Millar, a Canadian international who had apparently struck a deal with Sheffield United,

was previously linked to Sunderland.

Now, Leeds United, Sheffield United, and Sunderland have surfaced as possible suitors for the former Preston North End loanee.

The parent club FC Basel has placed a £2.1 million price tag on the winger,

who scored five goals in the 2023–24 Championship season while on loan at Preston North End, according to Nau Sport.

Millar, who is anticipated to quit the Swiss company this summer, is reportedly valued “well above the market value.”

Le Bris’ attacking alternatives are currently few and far between,

especially in light of Jack Clarke’s uncertain future at the Stadium of Light.

In contrast to the price Sunderland could ask for Clarke,

Millar might be the ideal substitute for the former Tottenham winger.

With 28 caps for his country, Millar is a left winger who is similar to Clarke in that he is eager to test the goalie from a distance after cutting with his preferred right foot.

The pace of Clarke is unmatched by many players at this level, but Millar is not far behind.

It will be challenging for Sunderland to recruit the former Liverpool young player because they will be up against teams like Sheffield United and Leeds United,

but if Clarke’s future becomes more apparent,

the sizeable amount should be paid.

His ten goal contributions at this level in the previous season demonstrate what a coup and statement signing he would be for Le Bris.
