Nottingham Forest set for Psr boost as £26m transfer nears completion

The sale of Moussa Niakhaté to Olympique Lyonnais in France should immediately improve Nottingham Forest’s balance sheet.

In order to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and prevent points penalties that Forest and

Everton endured during the previous season, Premier League clubs are searching for last-minute sales. Niakhaté, a

defender from Senegal, is close to joining Lyon for an estimated €31 million (£26 million).

Niakhaté has had a physical with Lyon, who placed sixth in Ligue 1 last season, according to transfer specialist

Fabrizio Romano. A four-year contract is anticipated to be signed by Niakhaté. Niakhaté has been with Forest for

two years having being signed by the Reds during the busy summer transfer window of 2022 from the German club

Mainz.

In the Premier League’s previous season, Niakhaté made 15 starts: seven under Steve Cooper and eight under Nuno

Espirito Santo. In all, the 28-year-old appeared in 21 league games.

Over the past two seasons, he has by no means been a constant in Forest’s starting lineup.

Niakhaté played in just 37 games in all competitions for the team, and he scored the lone goal in a 4-2 loss at Villa

Park in February versus Aston Villa.

During the previous season, Willy Boly and Brazilian defender Murillo were frequently chosen over Niakhaté,

who has also been drawing interest from transfer agents. Murillo, a center defense who is 21 years old,

has been strongly connected to Chelsea.
