Twelve players will represent Slovenia at the pre-Olympic qualifier in Greece,

including Dallas Mavericks sensation Luka Doncic.
In Slovenia, LJUBLJANA — The Slovenian national team revealed

their final 12-man squad prior to flying out to Piraeus fo

r the Greece pre-Olympic qualifying competition.

Superstar Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks was at

the top of the list of players mentioned.

Together with Doncic, the other players on Slovenia’s 12-man

roster are Josh Nebo, Aleksej Nikolic, Klemen Prepelic, Leon Stergar, Luka Scuka, Miha Cerkvenik, Vlatko Cancar, Ziga Dimec, and Zoran Dragic.

Before Slovenia’s first Group Phase matchup against Croatia,

head coach Aleksander Sekulic expressed confidence in the group.

Despite having little opportunity to drill as a cohesive unit—Doncic

started 5-on-5 practice just one day prior to Friday’s victory

over Brazil—he is pleased with the team’s preparation.

“Everyone who is ready to compete and train for the common

good for three weeks deserves a place in the national team,

but unfortunately, there is only room for twelve basketball

players in the team,” Sekulic stated.

“We may have missed a few training days, but we have good

preparations, and I believe the other national teams are facing similar issues as well.

Sekulic talked about the difficulties Slovenia would have in their next matchups with NBA players Ivica Zubac and Dario Saric in Croatia and New Zealand.

In the event that Slovenia makes it to the final, Giannis Antetokounmpo may play in front of his home crowd when Slovenia plays Greece.

“We have a challenging group, in which Croatia has shown excellent performances in the last matches and which has justifiably high expectations,

there is also New Zealand, and then probably Greece, whose power should not be wasted in front of the home fans,” Sekulic stated.

“However, our goal is to secure a spot in the Olympics for the second consecutive year.

Due to COVID-19, Slovenia participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 after it was originally planned to.

Slovenia qualified for the bronze medal game after losing 90-89 to France,

but ultimately lost to Australia. Slovenia had its best-ever FIBA World Cup finish last year, coming in at number seven.
