Ben Johnson, a target for Leeds United, will formally depart West Ham United

when his current contract expires.

Johnson, 24, and the Hammers had been involved in talks for new terms at

the London Stadium, but those discussions had come to an impasse.

Under David Moyes, the defender made a total of 25 appearances in

the Premier League last season, including 4 starts.

After observing Johnson for some time, Leeds is now free to speak with him

about a possible summer transfer to Elland Road. Additionally,

Johnson has already received ten international caps for England’s Under-21 team.

After leaving,

Johnson thanked West Ham for everything during his 17-year tenure in

London in a statement posted on the team’s website.

He started by saying: “Thank you to everyone associated

with West Ham United for supporting me over the last 17 years and developing me into a first-team player.”

“I consider myself fortunate to have played for the first team in the Premier League, domestic cups,

and European competitions after graduating from the Academy of Football.

All I want is to be known and remembered for enjoying my football and playing with a grin during my time at West Ham.

That is very significant to me.

“Winning the UEFA Europa Conference League is, I think, my most treasured memory.

It’s not often that one is involved in a European trophy victory, so being able to witness and participate in that with West Ham was amazing.

What transpired two seasons ago exceeded my expectations, and I’m incredibly happy that I was able to do it as a West Ham player. I will always remember that evening.

“I wish the new head coach at West Ham all the best for the upcoming season, and naturally, I’ll miss all of my teammates, the staff, and the fans.

“West Ham will always hold a special place in my heart and be a part of my life. Finally,

I would like to say a massive thank you to West Ham for helping me grow as a young man and footballer.”
