Earlier this month, Chelsea and Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran came to a general agreement on a £40 million transaction.

While a summer departure from Aston Villa is possible, Jhon Duran’s transfer to Chelsea seems unlikely.

Following negotiations with Villa about a £40 million transfer,

the Blues were granted permission to discuss personal terms with the 20-year-old earlier this month.

Duran was also a target for Chelsea in January of last year, but a trade never came together.

Less than 18 months after signing a £14.75 million contract to join Villa from Chicago Fire,

he was forced to wait until March of this year to make his Premier League debut—ten months after

scoring his first league goal against Everton at the beginning of the previous campaign.

He might now depart Villa even though the club has already resolved its problems with the Profit

and Sustainability Rules thanks to Douglas Luiz’s impending €50 million transfer. Additionally,

Villa has closed two transactions with Chelsea this week: the £37.5 million signing of Ian Maatsen and the £19 million transfer of Omari Kellyman, age 18.

There hasn’t been any further movement on a deal as of now,

but it’s unclear if Chelsea is prepared to pursue Duran further or if they have moved on to other targets.

While playing for Colombia in the Copa America, Duran said to Gol Caracol,

“I am not aware of the options of the other teams.” “At the Copa America, my main concern is the national team.

I want to contribute more minutes and show my support for them.”

“For those topics of possible signing I already have other people who take care of that.”

Naturally, Villa would have to take Duran’s place if he were to depart.
