Sunderland will be looking to capitalize on a successful summer transfer window

in order to improve on their poor 16th place finish

in the Championship table from the previous season.

However, the Black Cats have recently experienced turbulence

after having three different managers during the season.

They will need to address a few concerns this summer

before focusing on the upcoming campaign.

Before the August 30th transfer window deadline,

the club needs to make decisions about the futures of these three players:

Even though he struggled in the second part of the season,

Jack Clarke was a constant force for the Black Cats last season,

scoring 15 goals in 40 appearances.

His final goal came on February 17 in a shocking 2-1 loss to Birmingham City,

who were ultimately relegated.

In reality, Clarke was in the running for the Championship Golden Boot heading into the final months of the season, but a bad run of form finally saw him finish 10th in the second tier’s goalscoring rankings.

Top-flight teams have expressed interest in signing the former Tottenham Hotspur star because, at his best, he appears to be a player capable of returning to the Premier League.

Football Insider reports that West Ham United has a “concrete” interest in signing the Black Cats star, and that manager Julen Lopetegui, who took over from former boss David Moyes, is assembling his own team.

Regardless of how things turn out, the Black Cats will want to get rid of their star player as soon as possible. However, considering Clarke’s skill, it would be challenging for the team to keep him on board should he decide to go.
