Former Foxes striker Alan Smith claims Steve Cooper has Leicester City “in safe hands.”

After agreeing to a three-year contract to take over at King Power Stadium and succeed Enzo Maresca, Cooper is getting ready to lead the team back into the Premier League. He hasn’t spent any time in working with City’s management to develop a strategy to bolster his team in preparation for their Premier League comeback.

Having led Nottingham Forest into the Premier League and maintained them there, the 44-year-old has recent experience doing so. Following their promotion from the Championship, Cooper guided them to a 16th-place finish in the 2022–2023 campaign, which saw Leicester demoted.

That was his only complete season leading Forest until Nuno Espirito Santo took over for him as owner, Evangelos Marinakis. Smith told Prime Casino, “I think Leicester made the right choice in appointing Steve Cooper.” He seems like a capable boss to me.

“He had a difficult time at Forest. I believe that under the proprietor, Evangelo Marinakis, things are really challenging. Perhaps Nuno (Espirito Santo) is discovering that now as well, but he did a great job launching Forest into the Premier League and maintaining them there throughout their inaugural campaign. He is, in my opinion, a gifted coach.

“I believe they are taking good care of Leicester.” They seem to complement one another. It seems like a fairly fantastic appointment to me.
