Scott McKenna of FC Copenhagen during the UEFA Champions League 2023/24 round of 16 second leg match between

Manchester City and F.C. Copenhagen at Etihad Stadium on March 6, 2024.

The Danish club’s Sporting Director was questioned about the 27-year-old’s future when he becomes a free agent.

According to Record Sport, the Copenhagen Director has indicated

that his club may be interested in retaining the Scotland international on a permanent basis.

“His contract had expired. And our financing here will expire on June 30.

Right now, we have to deal with it. However, I do not wish to remark on specific names.

McKenna has been linked with Celtic on numerous occasions over his career.

The player rose through the ranks at Aberdeen and went on to earn £4 million.

Celtic were linked with a permanent move for him in 2019, but nothing happened,

and he left for Championship club Nottingham Forest in September 2020.

Norway’s attacker Jorgen Larsen competes for the ball with Scotland’s defender Scott McKenna during

the UEFA Euro 2024 Group A qualification game between Scotland and Norway on November 19, 2023, at Hampden Park.

The player appeared 118 times for Aberdeen, controlling from the back under Derek McInnes.

The 5-cap International then played 106 games for Nottingham Forest, including 25 in the Premier League.

After a disagreement with manager Nuno Espírito Santos, he was transferred to Copenhagen on loan,

but now has the freedom to choose his future team.

Celtic are looking for defensive additions this summer to complement their back line.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is the primary choice,

but the manager will want a player who can play alongside him and provide quality on and off the ball.

McKenna played UCL football for Copenhagen, and given how highly the management regards him,

he could be a candidate to join the club.

However, there has been suggestion that Brendan Rodgers

has spoken with Carl Starfelt about a possible return to Paradise following a difficult season at Celta Vigo in La Liga last year.
