Sam Hauser has made steady progress in his three NBA seasons.

From being an undrafted free agent after graduating

from the University of Virginia,

he has transformed into a mainstay in the NBA’s most skilled rotation.

The six-foot-eight shooter finished each game

with 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 42.4% of his 5.9

three-pointers made it in. Additionally,

he consistently demonstrated that it is a mistake

to try to target him defensively,

showing Luka Doncic and even himself difficulty when

switching on to him during the NBA Finals due to his

upper-body strength, mobility, and intelligence.

The deadline to exercise his $2.1 million team option to sign Banner 18 was this Saturday, after he assisted the Celtics in winning it.

The following was communicated to Inside

The Celtics by the team’s president of basketball operations,

Brad Stevens, in response to questions regarding the club option of the Wisconsin native Hauser and whether or not the selection of Baylor Scheierman, another shooter, would have an effect on Hauser’s potential extension.

“I’m not gonna get into the particulars with

what decisions we’ll make with each guy and their contracts,

but I will say we want Hauser to be here for a long time.”

If Hauser’s team option had been declined,

he would have become a restricted free agent.

In that case, perhaps the aim would have been that the 26-year-old forward’s status would result in financial savings on an extension.

Rather, the Celtics exercised his club option,

as reported by Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Knowing that he is already committed for the 2024–25 season, they can now negotiate an extension worth up to $78 million over four years.
