Celtic transfer target pens new contract ending speculation

Southampton’s Alex McCarthy has agreed a new contract to end speculation that he could be replacing Joe Hart at Celtic.

Russell Martin‘s team won the Play-off Final and were promoted to the first division, and the 34-year-old began the match against Leeds. But because his contract was set to expire at the end of the season, there were rumors that he would be departing St. Mary’s. In order to prolong his stay, the goalkeeper has now agreed to a two-year contract extension.

Speaking to the Saints’ official website, McCarthy expressed his happiness at reaching the agreement.

We came into the season with the goal of helping the club return to its rightful place, and I was more than delighted to contribute in that regard.

Working with Dean [Thornton] and our goalkeepers here is something I truly like doing.

The prospect of playing Premier League football once more in the upcoming season excites me already.

McCarthy has played in 124 league games for the Saints, and he plans to increase this number as they contend for the top flight
