AS Roma has signed Raphael Varane on a free transfer, beating out Como.

Raphael Varane, the former center defender for Manchester United, has reportedly arrived in Como with his representatives to hold talks with the recently promoted Serie A team,

although Roma is also reportedly interested, according to Sky Sport Italia.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Serie A team Como is interested in France veteran Varane and is prepared to meet with the player and his entourage to make an offer.

Varane reportedly landed in Como on Saturday and plans to stay there for a few days.

He will meet with the Como directors throughout this period to hear their suggestions. Roma is also reportedly interested in Varane, so Como is not the only team pursuing him.

There have also been links between the Giallorossi and Mats Hummels.

The seasoned German back is also free to sign, but according to recent sources,

the Giallorossi must let go of Chris Smalling in order to make room for a new center back.

Though Varane’s Manchester United contract expires on June 30,

he has already said that he won’t be staying at Old Trafford past the summer.
