John Lundstram revealed earlier this week that he had conversations with a former teammate about leaving Ibrox for Turkey, and the conversation had some influence.
When it became clear that his Ibrox contract would not be extended, the free-agent midfielder quickly consulted Ridvan Yilmaz about the possibility of starting again in the Super Lig. He eventually sealed a move to Trabzonspor.
Furthermore, Yilmaz, an international player for Turkey who moved from Besiktas to Rangers, couldn’t have been more complimentary.
Lundstram tells A Spor, “I’m very good friends with Ridvan Yilmaz, so we spoke a lot about Turkey even before Trabzonspor showed interest.”
“I heard that you people are quite crazy, so I wanted to learn more about the culture, Besiktas, and the fans!
And when I asked Ridvan after hearing from Trabzonspor, he replied, “I’d love the club.”
I therefore felt very at ease with the choice.

Naturally, Lundstram wasn’t the only former mainstay of the Rangers to be exposed this week on the shores of the Black Sea.
Additionally, Borna Barisic signs a free move to Trabzonspor.
Mislav Orsic left Southampton after a terrible spell and joined Trabzonspor last year.
Another Croatian who plays defender like Barisic, Filip Benkovic, used to work at Papara Park for Leicester City and Celtic.
