West Ham And Southampton Have Valuation Gap On Star

During his season-long loan with Southampton, Downes was instrumental in the Saints’ victory and subsequent promotion to the Premier League.

The two clubs are in talks as Russell Martin hopes to bring Downes in for a permanent deal.

Before add-ons that would depend on Southampton finishing in the Premier League, West Ham wants to pay £15 million for the midfield player.

While Kyle Walker-Peters could go, Saints are unwilling to pay that much for Downes, and West Ham is considering a number of right-backs.

If Southampton hopes to catch up to West Ham for Downes, they will have to make improvements to their offer.

Downes scored twice in his 36 Championship games for Southampton in the previous campaign.
