The Dallas Mavericks are making an effort to put their painful NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics behind them.

To prepare for another championship run in 2024–2025, strengthening their team in the offseason would be the

wisest course of action.

Recruiting a 3-and-D wing to assist them in their cause seems to be a part of their agenda.

It appears that they are aiming for shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope of the Denver Nuggets.

This summer, Caldwell-Pope, who won two chips with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and the Nuggets the previous

year, will be eligible for free agency. There is “mutual interest” in a possible free-agency deal between the Mavericks

and KCP, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

However, there’s a significant catch—the Nuggets won’t help the Mavs in any way.

According to them, Dallas can simply sign and trade Caldwell-Pope in order to reach his anticipated salary range.

The Nuggets are reportedly unwilling to sign and trade with an in-conference opponent, even if it means losing

Caldwell-Pope without receiving payment. Dallas recently overcame Denver to take the lead in the Western

Conference, according to Stein.

Stein claims that the Nuggets would prefer to lose KCP as a free agent than deal him to the Mavs,

where Denver would receive compensation for the 31-year-old. That is the extent to which the Nuggets are opposed

to the Mavs improving as a team the following season.

The Nuggets are clearly interested in winning the championship again in 2025, and they have no interest in

supporting any other club, particularly the Mavs, who are a division competitor.
