The Dallas Mavericks, who had suffered a defeat in the NBA Finals,

are trying to bolster their team in order to have a

long postseason run the following season. Quentin Grimes was recently acquired by the Mavericks from the Detroit

Pistons in exchange for wing Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round choices. In addition, the team selected

forward Melvin Ajinca in the 2024 NBA Draft, who is the cousin of former Mavericks center Alexis Ajinca.

Still, it appears that the group is only getting warmed up. Klay Thompson, a free agent from the Golden State

Warriors, is of interest to the Mavericks, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

“League sources tell The Stein Line that another team intent on investigating the possibility of signing Thompson

once he reaches free agency is the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks, with some newfound financial flexibility after

securing the Tim Hardaway Jr.-to-Detroit trade that I wrote about Tuesday (see the full Twitter thread here), are another team.”

Thompson will be eligible for unrestricted free agency following 13 years with the Golden State Warriors.

The four-time NBA champion had one of his poorest seasons to date last season.

Only 63 of Thompson’s 77 games as an appearance were starts. He finished the season with 17.9 points, 3.3

rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on average. He also made 43.2% of his shots from the field and 38.7% of his shots

from beyond the arc.

It doesn’t seem like the Mavericks are the only team hoping to sign Thompson this summer.

The Nuggets and 76ers are two clubs to watch in the Thompson sweepstakes, according to Sam Amick and Anthony

Slater of The Athletic.

According to a league source, Philadelphia is considering Thompson. Denver has identified Thompson as a potential

replacement if the Nuggets lose incoming free agent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has chosen to forego his player

option and enter the market, according to a league source. For Orlando, Caldwell-Pope, so to speak, is thought to be

a serious contender. Depending on his price, a few other competitor teams may possibly be interested in Thompson.
