Dallas Mavericks Acquire Melvin Ajinca in 2024 NBA Draft

The New York Knicks gave the Dallas Mavericks the draft rights to Melvin Ajinça, the 51st overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, in exchange for Ariel Hukporti, the 58th overall pick,

Petteri Koponen (30th overall pick in 2007), and financial considerations.

During the 2023–24 season, the 20-year-old forward played in 30 games for Saint-Quentin in the highest league in France (LNB Pro A),

averaging 9.5 points (.481 FG%,.815 FT%) and 3.6 rebounds. After averaging 8.5 points (.529 FG%,.394 3FG%,.848 FT%) and 2.0 rebounds in 33 games, he was crowned the French LNB Pro B Best Young Player in 2022–2023.

Ajinça is an athletic, 6’8″ three-and-d player with upside. Given that Ajinca is still so young and the team doesn’t have many roster spaces, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison says they are considering both options: signing a two-way player or staying in Europe and figuring things out “as we go.”
