Paddy Hollis writes,

“The signing of Le Bris at the Stadium of Light ends a protracted wait and possibly indicates that the club was operating efficiently behind the scenes.”

One of the longest-running managerial hunts in Sunderland’s history came to a close over the weekend.

There’s an immediate sense of progress on Wearside now

that former Lorient goalkeeper Régis Le Bris has signed a contract.

His hiring is a clear shift in focus, but we nearly went in that path a year ago.

Tony Mowbray was set to be replaced by Francesco Farioli, but Mogga was preferred by the hierarchy.

Even so, it always seemed like our next permanent boss would come from abroad,

and that’s exactly what transpired.

Le Bris’s appointment feels like a new direction for Sunderland,

and it makes sense in this sense considering our abundance of French-speaking players and his track record of developing young players.

Relegation from Ligue 1 the previous season does not provide a complete picture of his tenure at Lorient,

thus it is vital to take that into account.

Several of his best players were sold after he led the team to its highest top flight result in ten years in the previous season.

He could have been sitting in the stands during our season’s last game if the club had hurried him into an appointment. But he would have been on vacation until the beginning of July,

so if everything went wrong fast,

we would have been left wondering why we hurried the appointment.

Some who post on social media that they are “in the know” about why other candidates didn’t receive the job are lying,

and some of them are doing it to feel entitled to some kind of satisfaction.

In all honesty, we’ll never know how close any of the other applicants were to landing the position,

and Le Bris’ hiring coincides with a number of other Sunderland-related events.

We’ve been longing for a cup of positive, and now we have it in the form of a new club shop,

our first summer signing in goalkeeper Simon Moore,

a release date for the new home uniform, and news that the Lasses will be playing more games at the Stadium of Light next season.

Having said that, it’s crucial to give Le Bris some time.

Social media users’ irritation and lack of tolerance gave rise to rumors that the team was doing nothing but thumbing its nose at things.

However, we have brought in a highly recognized manager from the continent who appears to be hiring his own staff and has decades of experience developing young players.

He needs our support, and now that we have it,

we can move forward and perhaps overcome a stale 2023–2024 campaign.

Before a ball is kicked competitively once more, there are still many procedures to be taken,

but Sunderland has begun crossing things off their list.

Before the preseason begins, we will have a new head coach, so everything should be OK.

Concern for a football team is one of the numerous things that cause far too many people to become overly emotionally involved in areas over which they have no control.

Savor the summer, cheer for the European Championship,

and let events unfold in Sunderland’s universe.
