With the signing of highly regarded teenager Miodrag Pivas, NEWCASTLE United is

expected to strengthen their junior ranks; however, Yankuba Minteh’s future is now unclear

Pivas, who played in the Serbian Superliga with FK Jedinstvo Ub the previous season, is scheduled to

become a free agent at the end of this month. Earlier this week, Pivas was photographed at St James’ Park.

The 19-year-old, who can play center half or defensive midfield, will initially train with

Newcastle’s Under-21 team. However, he will be hoping to make an impression in the youth

ranks and earn a spot in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup.
Nemanja Matic, a former midfielder for Chelsea and Manchester United, described the Serbian

youth international as having “a huge talent and serious potential.” He has made an impression in his own country.

“If he keeps going in this direction, he will eventually make the national squad. I believe this is the first player with such predispositions since Bradislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Vidic. A superb professional and a whole player.”
Although Pivas’s arrival will help the young players, Newcastle’s top objective in the next days will be to balance the books in preparation for this weekend’s PSR deadline.
