Tobias Harris could finally find a home in Dallas

Harris has come under fire for his playoff performances, but there are reasons to believe that those could change

The Dallas Mavericks have just finished one of their greatest seasons ever.

They also just finished a series that revealed that, aside from Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, one of their main

shortcomings is the inability to create and make shots. In short, the Mavericks’ frontcourt lacks sufficient offensive

firepower.

The Fundamentals

Tobias Harris might be able to remedy that. He has frequently been criticized for his overpriced deal and postseason

performances. These complaints are not nearly as legitimate as the general public would have you think.

One aspect of a player’s job is to negotiate a contract to get the most money possible.

On that contract that people complain about, Harris has secured riches for future generations,

and it is now terminated. Although Harris’s salary for the upcoming season will not exceed $40 million,

his enormous deal may allow him to command a lower price. Harris is still a very valued basketball player.

Regarding his postseason exploits, he has averaged 16.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game over his career

while shooting 47.1 percent from the field, 34.9 percent from three, and 86.3 percent from the free throw line.

With his 6-foot-8 height and 6-foot-11 wingspan, Harris is a forward who would blend in well with the Mavericks’

emphasis on size and length. Although he is not as good of a defensive stopper as Derrick Jones Jr., he is nonetheless

a good defender. He has active hands and good foot movement.

With a distinctly positive net rating in each of the previous five seasons, Harris’ teams have progressively performed

better when he is on the court.

Advantages

Harris’s ability to combine size and shooting is his main skill. One of the worst shooting frontcourts in the current

NBA is the Mavericks’. Concern over the Mavericks front court shooting is heightened by the latest report that PJ

Washington is working on his jumper during the offseason. Harris would allay their fears considerably.

Even after the trade deadline, the Mavericks were forced to decide between size/defense and shooting. Josh Green is

obviously a guard, even though he has his moments. Although Tim Hardaway Jr. is a talented shooter, he jeopardizes

the defense and will probably be dealt with. Although Kleber has made 83 three-pointers in total over the last two

seasons, including the playoffs, he has long been the Mavericks’ go-to big man when it comes to shooting.
