The Nets made shockwaves throughout the NBA on Tuesday night and may not be done yet

On Tuesday night, the Brooklyn Nets surprised everyone by trading Bojan Bogdanovic and five first-round selections

for the versatile Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. The Nets had stated that they will decide whether to rebuild

around Bridges or to blow the squad up and reclaim as many assets as possible during this crucial offseason.

The Nets may be holding a fire sale in an attempt to reclaim as many future assets as possible, now that Bridges has

returned to New York to play with his former Villanova colleagues. Who should the Mavericks be considering if that’s

the case?

Finney-Smith, Dorian

Dorian Finney-Smith still has a soft spot for the Mavericks and occasionally attends postseason games,

so Dallas fans would be thrilled to see him return home. Some may even compare this to JJ Barea, a fan favorite who

returned to Dallas after leaving in free agency to join the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Finney-Smith’s contract has two years remaining; the second year is a player option valued at $15.3 million in 2025–26 and $14.9 million in 2024–25.

In order to match the payroll, the Mavericks could get there by moving away Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber,

but they would probably also need to include a few second-round selections.

He’s a good on-ball defender and hit over 39% from three in his past two full seasons in Dallas,

but he’s only shot 33.7% since the trade for Kyrie Irving to Brooklyn. He doesn’t have the high ceiling like other

players may have as a scorer. Reuniting with Luka Doncic would undoubtedly help his career.

It probably isn’t worth it for the Mavericks to give up a first-round selection in order to sign Finney-Smith,

especially if they can return Derrick Jones Jr., a younger, more athletic version of the player.

Dallas doesn’t really need a sharpshooter like Finney-Smith as a rotation-level player because he is past 30.
