Sead Haksabanovic has left Celtic to join Swedish side Malmo,

revealing that he did not want to leave the Scottish champions,

but “other people had another opinion”.

Haksabanovic, who was on loan at Stoke last season,

has signed a four-year contract with Malmo and might be called up immediately for their match against Halmstad in early July.

The 25-year-old Montenegro international, who was born in Sweden,

told Malmo’s official website that joining the country’s largest club was “fun” and that when transfer talks began, they “clicked immediately”.

However, in a parting address to Celtic fans,

he made it clear that he hadn’t wanted a move and would have been glad to try and extend his career at Parkhead, but had   been told he wasn’t part of the plans for the future.

So my time at Celtic has come to an end, earlier than I imagined,

expected, and wanted, but some other individuals had a different perspective,

which I have to accept.” Haksabanovic posted on Instagram.

“I’d like to thank the players, staff, and fans because that’s what Celtic is all about;

we made some great memories together and will always love Celtic; good luck,

and Celtic are f***ing massive everywhere they go.”

“All the best in the future.”

The winger joined Celtic from Rubin Kazan in August 2022 and was given frequent playing time by manager Ange Postecoglou, but he failed not establish himself as a starter.

Following Brendan Rodgers’ appointment as Postecoglou’s successor,

Haksabanovc was loaned to Stoke City, where he spent the previous season.
