According to ABOLA’s assessment in mid-May, Aston Villa’s interest in Pedro Gonçalves is not at all transient.

The Birmingham team, who has had their eye on the 25-year-old Sporting striker for at least a year,

is considering making another bid. The English side may make a formal offer during the current transfer window due to this long-standing desire.

Pedro Gonçalves has been coveted by Aston Villa since the summer of 2023.

They are really interested, but they haven’t made Sporting a formal offer yet.

In contrast, Leverkusen, the Bundesliga winners, made an offer of €30 million for Gonçalves last summer.

Sporting’s management turned down this offer, not even moved by the huge price.

Aston Villa has had its eye on Pedro Gonçalves since the summer of 2023.

Though they haven’t made Sporting a formal offer yet, they are genuinely intrigued.

Conversely, last summer, Gonçalves had an offer of €30 million from Bundesliga winners Leverkusen.

The administration of Sporting rejected this offer, unfazed by the enormous sum.

Known by his nickname “Pote,” Pedro Gonçalves was among the first players signed during the Rúben Amorim period.

Sporting paid €6.5 million for 50% of Famalicão’s rights in the summer of 2020,

and has since invested an extra €7 million to get the remaining 40%. With a contract that was renewed in August 2023 and expiring in June 2027,

Sporting is in a strong negotiation position.

The club’s position is unwavering: in order to start negotiations, any interested party must fulfill the €80 million release clause.

Aston Villa might be the next team to formally bid on Gonçalves after Leverkusen’s abortive attempt.

They are conscious, too, that unless they are willing to pay the huge €80 million price tag, negotiating this agreement will not be easy.

The research by ABOLA emphasizes the intricacy of this possible transfer by outlining the relevant financial and strategic factors.

Pedro Gonçalves is still a key player in Sporting’s plans for the time being,

so any team looking to sign him has to be prepared to make a substantial investment.
