Report:All signs point to Luka Doncic making decision that’ll frustrate Mavericks fans
All signs point to Luka Doncic playing for Slovenia in pre-Olympic qualifiers
It’s time to watch how Nico Harrison reacts after the Dallas Mavericks’ season ended in precisely one week after they
were defeated by the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the 2024 NBA Finals.
Dallas struggled in the Finals to find a third scorer, so the Mavs need to find someone who can relieve Kyrie Irving
and Luka Doncic of some of their scoring duties when necessary. The Finals saw no one else stand up, and Boston
prevailed in large part because of it.
Even though his team lost in five games, Doncic was outstanding in the Finals, but it looks like he might be going to
make a move that will annoy Mavs supporters.
Doncic has joined the Slovenian National Team in order to get ready for the pre-Olympic qualifiers.
All indications point to his participating in the qualifiers, even though the Slovenian team’s medical experts will
assess his knee.
Even though Dallas anticipated Doncic to play for Slovenia this summer, the decision has angered some Mavs
supporters. Slovenia would need to win the pre-Olympic qualifying competition in Greece to secure a spot in the
Olympics.
Although it’s understandable that Doncic would want to represent his nation because it makes him so happy,
there is a frightening chance that he could get hurt.
Throughout the entire playoff season, Doncic battled problems such as a thoracic contusion and a sprained knee,
for which he had injections to relieve the pain. He had very little time to recover before heading to Slovenia to train
with the national team.
If it had been the regular season, Doncic’s injuries would have prevented him from playing for several weeks,
according to a report from the playoffs. Less than a week has passed since Doncic last played, so it will be essential
that he stays fit for Slovenia’s pre-Olympic qualifications and the Olympics, should they go.
