Tim Hardaway Jr. of the Dallas Mavericks is reportedly considering a trade with the Detroit Pistons, per Mark Stein.

After losing to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, Dallas has started rearranging its roster for the upcoming

season. In a manner, Hardaway’s salary dump would free up cap room for general manager Nico Harrison.

According to league sources who spoke with @TheSteinLine, “Detroit has emerged as a potential trade destination

for Dallas’ Tim Hardaway Jr.,” Stein stated via X.

Hardaway averaged 14.4 points per game, shooting 40.2% from the field and 35.3% from beyond the arc,

to finish as the Mavericks’ third-leading scorer this season. You wouldn’t expect Dallas to move him away given those

numbers. However, Hardaway’s role shrank and he was taken out of the starting lineup for the NBA Playoffs.

Hardaway signed a four-year contract with Dallas prior to the 2021–2022 season, of which one year is left.

Getting the majority, if not all, of his cap hit off the books will enable the Mavericks to sign other free agents.

His cap hit is estimated to be little over $16 million.

Stein subsequently stated that the structure for the trade is still being developed.

Stein claims that Quentin Grimes, a third-year player, might be going to Dallas as part of the possible trade.
