For the vacant head coaching position, the Kitchener Rangers are in serious talks with Mike Van Ryn, their current deputy bench manager.

The Ontario Hockey League franchise has chosen the former National Hockey League defenseman as their first choice to take over for Troy Smith,

who was sacked in late April after leading the organisation for two years. Smith has not yet signed a contract with the team.

Van Ryn, who spends the off-season in Florida, is likely to be the next captain at the Aud, but he is still hammering out the specifics of a deal.
