Rangers eye 16-goal youth striker swoop as Leeds United target Ibrox wonderkid

The Gers are used to competing with English clubs for the top young players available in the United Kingdom.
Enough prospective players have been lured north of the border by the Gers with the promise of a quick route to the first squad, enough to sell the Ibrox dream.

However, other players have been lured away by the lucrative Premier League, or their early success in Glasgow has drawn attention from elsewhere.

For the Rangers, it would be great if these young players succeed in Govan before the Gers spend a lot of money on a southward transfer.

However, Rangers are already being linked to one of the Ibrox side’s best young talents as a top English Championship team joins the list of teams watching him.

Stevens, a Rangers prospect, is wanted in England

Archie Stevens, an England youth international, is thought to be one of Rangers’ best prospects.

The presently 18-year-old came via AFC Wimbledon’s development systems and joined the Ibrox team in the summer of 2022.

The 16-year-old’s first-team debut came almost soon after,

during the League Cup victory over Queen of the South in August of the same year.

Almost from the moment the forward stepped through the Glasgow academy door,

Rangers have faced intense interest in him.

A six-figure transfer to Premier League Brighton was linked to the England U17 World Cup standout in January,

while in March, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, and Fulham were discussed.

Rangers are now up against new Archie Stevens interest,

as Leeds United of the English Championship is rumoured to be “monitoring” the winger.

As Stevens approaches the last year of his Rangers deal,

Leeds Live also mentions interest from West Ham and Manchester United.

Though both players are expected to leave this window,

it is alleged that the Elland Road team does not see Stevens as a clear replacement for Jack Harrison or Crysencio Summerville.

Rangers concentrate on Matthews

The clubs are also not resting on their laurels as the Rangers great wheel revolves.

Archie Stevens’ future may be uncertain, but Rangers are already connected to another young English player who is causing a stir in the south.

The Secret Scout claims that Ajay Matthews, a young star from Middlesbrough,

is being observed by several clubs, including the Rangers.

Competition for a young striker who scored 16 goals for the Riverside youth team last season is said to be tough,

with Old Firm rivals Celtic and four Premier League teams also mentioned.

Although we’ll proceed cautiously with these assertions for the time being,

significant changes may be coming to the Rangers academy this summer.

The future appears bright for young players developing at Ibrox,

with Philippe Clement promising to employ more of them and the B Team having exited the Lowland League.
