N’Golo Kante’s remarkable Euro 2024 showing has Premier League clubs on alert.

N’Golo Kante, 33, has returned to the France squad for the first time in two years, and after winning back-to-back man of the match accolades, he seems as if he has never left.

The midfielder missed the Qatar World Cup due to a hamstring injury, and his Premier League career came to an end when he joined Saudi club Al-Ittihad last summer.

For some athletes, opening their wallets would mean the end of their careers, but Kante has always been made differently.

“I’m happy to be back in my boots and in competition, as well as to have received praise and support,” he said ahead of France’s match against Poland in Dortmund.

“I feel good. Last season went well for me; there was fantastic preparation leading up to the Euros, and I hope it continues.

“There are other players who can replace me if needs be, but I want to continue and I want to give all I’ve got.” It’s the only way he knows how.

Football fans worldwide fell in love with Kante for his all-action exploits when he won the Premier League with Leicester and Chelsea in consecutive seasons, followed by the World Cup in 2018.

“Maybe it’s maturity; perhaps I realize where my head should be. It’s working for me, and I hope it will continue, but what matters most is that we work together.

Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann are the only two players older than Kante in a French group brimming with young potential, but he concedes the position of mentor is not easy.

“I can share knowledge with the younger ones,” Kante confessed. “But it’s not my personality to lead and talk at every session. When we’re on the pitch, I can show them much more readily.”
