Interesting Kansas City Chiefs ace Recognized as ‘Player To Root For’

Despite having a subpar wide receiver corps, the Kansas City Chiefs successfully defended their Super Bowl championship in 2023. In fact, tight end Travis Kelce topped the team in receiving yards during the 2023 NFL season. To be fair, that was also true in 2022, when Kelce led the club in the same statistical category.

The Chiefs made an offseason attempt to shore up the position by signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a one-year contract worth $7 million. According to Tom Blair of NFL.com, Brown is the Chiefs player to root for in the next season.

I’m pleased for every receiver that has the opportunity to work with Patrick Mahomes. Yes, Brown is somewhat spoiled in this regard, having previously caught passes from Lamar Jackson in Baltimore and Kyler Murray in Arizona.

However, as my colleague Kevin Patra recently pointed out, Brown was not put in the best position by either the Ravens or the Cardinals.

Brown has a good opportunity to win a long-term contract someplace, possibly in Kansas City, if he can become a steady, trustworthy, and productive partner for Mahomes.

And, to be honest, I’m all for anything that allows Mahomes to perform even better on the field.

Before signing a short-term contract with the Chiefs, Brown spent three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and two more with the Arizona Cardinals.

Now, he will try to contribute significantly to the Chiefs’ passing attack, which will be headed once more by two-time league MVP and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Last season, the Chiefs placed sixth in the league with 248.6 passing yards per game, thanks in large part to Mahomes’ outstanding performance as quarterback.

Brown will seek to increase his status by capitalizing on the opportunity to play beside a future Hall of Famer like Mahomes. Brown finished 2023 with 5474 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 51 receptions and 101 targets.
