Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a year left on his Everton contract and was a player Newcastle manager Eddie Howe had been monitoring for several years; a £40 million deal has proved too costly; the 2024 summer transfer window shuts on August 30 at 11 p.m. UK time in England and midnight in Scotland.

Newcastle are not pursuing their move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewin, who has 11 England caps, has scored 68 goals in 247 Everton appearances across all competitions since debuting in 2016.

Everton are unlikely to sign Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh.

The 19-year-old had a fantastic season with Arne Slot’s Feyenoord last year but has never played for Newcastle.

Lyon has made a serious bid to Newcastle for Minteh.

Both deals would have aided Newcastle and Everton in their respective concerns with profit and sustainability guidelines (PSR).

Iroegbunam becomes Everton’s first summer signing

On Saturday, Everton revealed their first signing of the summer transfer window: midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, who joins from Aston Villa on a three-year deal.

The 20-year-old, who reportedly cost £9 million, won the European U19 Championship with England in 2022 and has also represented the U20s.

Iroegbunam progressed through West Brom’s system, making his senior debut in May 2021 before joining Villa a month later.

He made his Villa debut in February 2022 and went on to make 12 Premier League games, two of which were starts.

“We are delighted to add Tim to our midfield options. “He is a young player who is still learning and developing, but he clearly possesses many of the qualities we seek in that area of the pitch,” Everton boss Sean Dyche stated.

“My coaching staff and I are looking forward to starting to work with him in pre-season.”

Villa are now in talks with Everton about signing 21-year-old winger Lewis Dobbin.
