Attacker on radar

Celtic and Rangers are both reportedly interested in signing Motherwell striker Theo Bair this summer, according to a report by The Athletic. The 24-year-old has caught the eye playing at Fir Park over recent times and his current side could face a battle to keep hold of him in this transfer window amid attention from elsewhere.

Bair worked his way up through the Vancouver Whitecaps’ levels, making 39 competitive appearances for the MLS team and scoring three goals.

The Canada international, who has two caps in his career, relocated to Europe in 2021 on a temporary basis, joining Hamkam on loan in Norway.

St Johnstone then attracted him to Scotland, but he struggled to make an impact with the Saints, scoring only once in 37 games.

However, since joining Motherwell last year, he has really found his feet and has become one of the league’s most valuable attackers.

Bair scored 15 goals in 41 appearances for Stuart Kettlewell’s side last season and is now linked with a move away this summer.

Regarding his tenure with the Well thus far, he has stated: “I know I’ve gotten a lot of flak for the earlier games, due to the lack of goals.” I don’t dispute it, but I’ve always believed I had it.

“I wouldn’t call it a purple patch; rather, I’d describe it as performing at the level that I aspire to.

“I just hope it continues. I wasn’t paying attention, but any striker understands that if they don’t score, they will face criticism.

“Criticism is also there because people know you can do better.”

Celtic could see him as someone who can bring competition and depth to their offensive lineup. Meanwhile, Rangers may have identified him as a possible top-tier competitor for Cyriel Dessers.

Rangers considering swoop

Rangers are ‘considering’ a bid for Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay, according to the Daily Record. He has worked for the Edinburgh club for the past four years and has done an excellent job with the Jam Tarts.

The Gers are looking for a successor for James Bisgrove, who left to join Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia. They may now go to one of their league rivals to fill the position.

Philippe Clement’s squad has lately entered the market to sign midfielder Connor Barron. His contract with Aberdeen terminated this summer, and he has moved to Ibrox to start a new chapter in his career.
