Celtic hold talks with Middlesbrough’s England U18 striker

Brendan Rodgers has some work ahead of him this summer to fortify the team in preparation for the upcoming season,

as the majority of transfer talk is around Celtic and their desire to bolster the first-team roster.

With so many positions at the club in need of attention,

Rodgers will need to bolster the goalkeeping corps in addition to finding a replacement for

Kyogo Furuhashi and a left fullback to challenge Greg Taylor for the starting job.

Along with Liam Scales’ performance from the previous campaign,

the Celtic manager ought to be searching for a worthy partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers in the middle

of defense since he was exposed multiple times in high-profile games.

However, it appears that efforts are also being made to support the Celtic youth team,

as the team is said to have had discussions with a promising England U18 international striker.

With 16 goals in 17 starts, Ajay Matthews, who plays for Middlesbrough’s U18 team, has been playing well for the younger team.

In 2023, Matthews signed his first professional deal with Middlesbrough after initially joining the Championship club at the under-9 level.

Several elite teams have been keeping an eye on Matthews,

who was tipped to leave Teeside in the summer of April of this year.

In May of this year, he scored the game-winning goal for the U18s against Northern Ireland in a 4-2 victory.

He has also played for England’s U17s in the Nordic Cup.

The young Englishman has just over a year left on his contract, so it appears like Celtic is making an attempt to sign him.

If they are successful, he will probably join the Celtic B team.
