According to Ajansspor, Besiktas has chosen not to sign Ridvan Yilmaz this summer due to Rangers’ high price tag.

According to a Turkish source [24 June], the Gers’ asking price of £4.2 million (€5 million) is too high for the Super Lig club, causing the talks between the two parties to fail.

Besiktas are reportedly looking into possible full-back recruits to replace the departing Arthur Masuaku, with AS Roma’s Leonardo Spinazzola, Sevilla’s Marcos Acuna, and Real Betis’ Juan Miranda all being mentioned.

While Yilmaz has been extensively connected with a move away from Ibrox this summer, the 23-year-old is believed to be reluctant to return to Turkey, despite interest from former club Besiktas [Sabah].

Could Ridvan Yilmaz remain at Rangers this summer?

Despite only making 15 Scottish Premiership appearances last season, Yilmaz appears to have been a favourite under Philippe Clement since the Belgian’s arrival in October.

The left-back’s lack of game action is due to injury issues during the 2023/24 season, rather than being sent to the bench on a regular basis, but Yilmaz now confronts new competition.

The recent arrival of Jefte from Fluminense will provide plenty of competition in the full-back positions, so it will be fascinating to see if the present left-back is ready to compete for a spot in the starting lineup.

Yilmaz only joined the club from Besiktas in the summer of 2022, making 48 appearances for the Scottish club, and he appears to be eager to stay at Ibrox ahead of next season.

Clement is starting to rebuild the squad, which will be an exciting period for any player, especially those who will be used by the manager next season rather than sold in the summer transfer window.

It is unclear what the manager intends to do with the 23-year-old left-back, particularly given his recent injury troubles, but there is no dispute about the player’s potential.

According to Sky Sports, Rangers will seek to recuperate their price if he leaves with three years remaining on his contract, but Besiktas are unwilling to pay that much.

In other Rangers news, James Bisgrove couldn’t wait to leave Ibrox following the launch of a new saga.
