The Texas Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-0 on Saturday afternoon in Arlington, Texas, thanks to a grand

slam by Wyatt Langford and two singles given up by Jon Gray in six innings of work. Texas won its third straight

game behind two hits and a home run from Josh Smith.

Ray (3-3) retired the last ten hitters he faced after allowing just two singles. He didn’t walk a batter and recorded

three strikeouts. To finish with the shutout, relief pitchers Brock Burke, David Robertson, and Jacob Latz each

pitched one inning. Losing pitcher Michael Wacha (4-6), who was starting for the first time since May 31 following a

left foot fracture sustained during a Luis Arraez comebacker in an 11-8 loss to San Diego. Wacha pitched five innings,

giving up three hits and one run. He struck out five and walked one.

Gray retired the first eight batters he saw before giving up a single to Garrett Hampson. Gray was coming off his

worst start of the season on Monday, when he gave up a season-high nine runs on 11 hits in three and a half innings

in a 14-2 defeat to the New York Mets. Then, Adam Frazier lined a single that tipped off first baseman Nathaniel

Lowe’s glove, moving Hampson to third base. By forcing Bobby Witt Jr. to make a comebacker, Gray was able to

escape the trap.

In the fourth, Smith sent a 352-foot line drive home run narrowly over the right field wall to give Texas a 1-0 lead.

Then, off reliever Angel Zerpa, the Rangers opened up the score with a five-run eighth inning. Smith sacrificed

Marcus Semien and Corey Seager to third and second, respectively, after they opened with back-to-back singles.

Adolis Garcia’s sluggish comebacker to Zerpa, whose late throw to the plate in an attempt to get Semien, set up

Semien’s subsequent score. After Lowe walked to load the bases, Langford sent a 415-foot grand slam deep into the

left field seats, marking his first career grand slam. Langford hit his third home run of the season.
