Aston Villa signs Ian Maatsen on a fee worth £37.5m, agreement reached on 6-years contract

certain to sign a six-year contract worth £37.5 million and go to Villa Park.

Villa finished fourth in the Premier League the previous season to earn a spot in the European
Cup for the first time in forty-one years, and their qualification for the Champions League next
season has instilled a great sense of hope among supporters ahead of the campaign. Because of this,
the club will be drawn to players of a better level, and Villa have acted accordingly by bringing in Maatsen, whose contract is expected to be finalised soon.
Ian Maatsen ‘Has Completed’ Aston Villa Medical
Using his catchphrase “here we go, confirmed!” to indicate that the deal had been finalised,
Romano announced on Sunday afternoon that the agreement to move Maatsen to Villa Park was completed.
Romano claims that Maatsen has agreed to all of the terms of his contract and that he completed
his medical in Germany while on international duty with the Netherlands national team. He will
sign a six-year contract at Villa Park, extending his stay in the second city until June 2030. Chelsea
will be paid £37.5 million for his services.
Chelsea Could Regret Ian Maatsen Sale
During his 2022–23 season loan at Burnley, Maatsen gained notoriety by helping and scoring five
goals in the Championship as Vincent Kompany’s team amassed 101 points to reclaim the top
division.
Despite Chelsea accepting a £31.5 million proposal from the Clarets for his services, Maatsen
chose to remain in London in order to give the preseason a try. However, his game time wasn’t
great.
The Dutchman was on fire for the Champions League runners-up, finding himself in the
tournament’s team of the season despite a loss in the final. Having proven himself on the big
stage, Chelsea may come to regret selling him to a rival club that is also gunning for European
football next season. Borussia Dortmund took him on loan last season, and that looked to be a masterstroke.
Although Maatsen’s young age and experience already combined make it a sensible move for Villa,
who have recruited perhaps the most intriguing young left-back in Europe right now, it’s still a great move for the Villans, who will likely unload Alex Moreno as a result of his arrival.
