It goes without saying that Atletico Madrid needs defensive support. It’s time to take action (i.e.,

spend real money) because a group that was previously under suspicion in 2023–2024 became a

major problem due to a shoddy investment made last summer.

A deal is reportedly close between Atletico and Robin Le Normand of Real Sociedad, as the two

parties have reportedly come to an agreement on personal conditions. Atletico is reportedly eyeing

Le Normand to strengthen Diego Simeone’s defence.

Left-back Javi Galán is something Atletico is eager to include in the deal in order to drive down

La Real’s asking price for Le Normand. Galán was loaned to San Sebastián for the second part of

the 2023–24 season, and after Samuel Lino’s breakthrough season, Galán has no position at Atleti.

But as we head into the second week of June, how close are these two clubs to reaching an

agreement?

Atlético, Le Normand have reportedly agreed contract terms

Atletico and Real Sociedad came to a complete “signed” agreement for Le Normand’s transfer on Saturday night, according to national radio (RNE) and television (RTVE) in Spain. As part of the agreement, Galán was “expected” to remain at La Real. However, Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio

Romano refuted this on Sunday, saying that the clubs were still in negotiations even though Atlético

was now working on the transaction “with confidence.”

The France-born Le Normand has been linked to leaving Real Sociedad this summer following six seasons with the Txuri-Urdin first squad, particularly if they fail to make it to the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League, according to reports that have been circulating for months. For the third time

in five years, La Real placed sixth in the standings, and they will need to find a way to make up for t

he loss of that extra Champions League revenue.

Le Normand’s contract expires in 2026, and Atlético is not often willing to pay the €50 million

release clause associated with him. But having already reached a deal with the player, Atleti may probably acquire him for between €30 and €40 million, including Galán, who only made nine appearances for Los Rojiblancos before starting frequently in LALIGA and Europe under Imanol Alguacil.
