of Nottingham Forest points deduction

Manchester City are facing a potential points deduction after being charged by the Premier League for

alleged Financial Fair Play breaches, with Nottingham Forest interested spectators

Manchester City are bracing themselves for a full hearing over their alleged 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches,

with clubs like Nottingham Forest watching with interest.

The Premier League levelled charges against City in February 2023,

primarily relating to their conduct between 2009 and 2018.

The main points of contention revolve around the financial information they submitted to the

league regarding payments made to players and managers.

Additionally, the Premier League claims that City did not fully cooperate with the subsequent investigation.

Despite these allegations, Pep Guardiola’s side has consistently maintained their innocence,

claiming they have evidence to support their case.

However, this evidence has yet to be given to the Premier League due to a delay in scheduling a hearing.

City is scheduled to have their hearing later this year, but a ruling is unlikely until summer 2025.

This postponement has sparked speculation that the Premier League and City will seek an out-of-court settlement to

avoid further delays.

However, there are concerns that clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, and Arsenal

would feel justice has not been served if a settlement is struck prior to a hearing,

especially because Everton and Nottingham Forest’s cases were completely heard.

This summer, the Reds will prioritize avoiding another violation of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Nuno stated earlier this year that lessons needed to be learned from last season’s four-point deduction for violating the rules.

“To avoid repeating the same mistakes. This is life. “You learn from your own mistakes,”

he remarked last month when asked what the team needed to take out from the entire situation.

The mystery around the deduction, combined with the reality of how it affected Forest’s quest for survival,

was one of the “distractions” Nuno and his team had to deal with last season.

They do not wish to replicate the scenario in 2024/25.

It means some hard work and some tough decisions lie ahead as the Reds look to balance the books.

And the date of June 30 – the cut-off point for the next PSR assessment period – is looming large on the horizon.

Speaking on BBC Radio Manchester’s podcast ‘We’re Not Really Here’,

football finance expert Kieran Maguire and Stefan Borson, City’s ex-financial advisor,

discussed the potential for a settlement. Maguire commented, “It would certainly save a lot of money on behalf of both sides.”
