Newcastle United met with England’s top agent to discuss a possible transfer, which Anthony Gordon commends.

In response to rumors that Newcastle is interested in the England defender Marc Guehi,

Anthony Gordon has praised his colleague.

Guehi made an impression for Crystal Palace in the previous year,

and his efforts were rewarded with a spot in England’s Euro 2024 roster.

Due to an injury to Harry Maguire, the 23-year-old was given the opportunity to play with John Stones in the center of the England defense for the Three Lions’ opening match against Serbia. He excelled in the 1-0 triumph.

Gordon, who did not play in Sunday’s Group C match, was quick to commend Guehi on his significant debut in an international event.

Additionally, he said that he would be happy to have the center back at St. James’ Park this summer.

In an exclusive interview with talkSPORT’s England correspondent Faye Carruthers, Gordon stated,

“He’s top, he’s such a good player and I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he’s such a lovely guy and he deserves what’s coming to him.”

Considering his height in relation to the strikers they put on,

I thought he was amazing in that match [against Serbia].

“He was aggressive, winning every header, intercepting a lot of balls,

and his main strength is his composure on the ball—he plays like a midfielder.”

“So, his back-row partnership with Stonesy is excellent for controlling the game.”

TalkSPORT has learned that Palace owner Steve Parish, who witnessed Guehi’s performance during the Serbia match, believes the defender is worth over £70 million and is expecting offers.

Chelsea, whose academy he attended, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester United have all been mentioned.

Gordon commented, “I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links,

but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team,” in response to rumors of a possible move to Tyneside.

Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, and Trent Alexander-Arnold,

who was given a more forward role for the Serbia match, make up England’s revamped midfield.

The Liverpool player has spent the majority of his career playing right-back, but he made a few appearances in midfield last season because of his poise and passing abilities, which led Southgate to choose to use him there.

The optimum place for Alexander-Arnold in the England starting lineup is still up for debate,

but there is no denying the development of his “bromance” with Bellingham.

Gordon also thinks that the two of them together will benefit England on the field.

Gordon disclosed, “They get along really well.” “They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner together every day. Trent is moving into the midfield, so it’s clear that the positive dynamic is beneficial.

“It helps Jude because Trent is new to the role and they can support each other through it.

Trent will occasionally need Jude’s assistance.”

However, the winger for Newcastle has his own goals for Euro 2024, beginning with making his debut at a major tournament.

Gordon plays left-sided for his club, hence Phil Foden was selected to start against Serbia.

Gordon wondered what might have happened if Foden had been on the field,

but his emphasis on occupying center positions left England with room out wide.

Gordon remarked of his experience watching from the bench,

“I think regardless of how the game was going I would have felt like that anyway.”

“That was the strategy because Phil can enter at that time.

Consequently, we won’t have breadth on that side by nature.

“Since Trippier [Kieran] isn’t a left-back,

it goes without saying that he will play a little more defensively than Shaw [Luke].”

“We are playing to each player’s abilities. Phil is stronger in the pockets,

where he can control the game and create from key areas. There’s no use playing him wide left.

“I was dying to get started, but it’s okay, we won the game, and that’s what matters most.”
