Everton are in talks to recruit Gambian attacker Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United, according to Gianluca Di

Marzio.

The Sky Sports writer reported (22 June) that the Toffees and Marseille are “further along” than Serie A side Roma

in their quest to sign the 19-year-old.Minteh, who is worth more than £25 million, spent last season on loan at

Feyenoord, where he scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 37 games, attracting interest from various clubs.

If the Toffees beat Roma to the acquisition of Minteh, Dan Friedkin, who owns the Giallorossi and is on the verge of

completing a takeover at Goodison Park, will, in a roundabout way, have his man. [Sky Sports, 21 June].

With the Toffees allegedly in a strong position to sign Minteh this summer, Sean Dyche may soon have a multitude of

offensive options at his disposal for the first time in his tenure.

Although existing forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have been linked with moves elsewhere, Dyche will be

desperate to maintain both while also adding the x-factor and pace of Minteh to his squad [Sabah, 17 June].

Interestingly, Minteh’s parent club Newcastle are apparently interested in signing Calvert-Lewin, raising the

prospect of the two attackers swapping jerseys next season [Paul Brown].

While Dyche will be hesitant to lose his number nine, Calvert-Lewin, who has only 12 months left on his current

contract, might be used as a makeweight to reduce Minteh’s fee [TEAMtalk].

Friedkin’s approaching buyout at Goodison appears to alleviate the financial constraints that have hampered the

club in recent seasons, and winning the race for Minteh this summer would be a significant demonstration of fresh strength.

In other Everton news, the club has made contact with Premier League opponents about signing a player who recently won the Champions League.
