Just in – Hansi Flick wants €40m-rated Bundesliga winner at Barcelona as a priority

In a further development, Oriol Domenech of Catalunya Radio claims that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has asked

the club to recruit Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as a priority.

Barcelona is considering their alternatives for the right-back position, with the possibility of keeping Joao Cancelo on

loan from Manchester City gaining traction.

However, given the Cityzens’ plans for a permanent sale, negotiations are unlikely to be easy.

Frimpong’s name was touted as a potential candidate for the role earlier this month, and it looks that Flick is eager to

sign the Netherlands international .Jeremie Frimpong enters the summer off the tail of a brilliant 2023/24 season in

which he played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s league and cup double.

Indeed, the 23-year-old concluded the season with 14 goals and 12 assists in 48 games across all competitions,

demonstrating his attacking abilities from the right back position.

Flick’s teams are known for playing with offensive full-backs who are willing to aggressively press high up the pitch,

and Frimpong fits that description. As a result, the German strategist appears to have identified him as a top priority target.

Furthermore, it is reported that Flick sees Frimpong as a potential replacement for Lamine Yamal in the right-wing

position, as he is not completely satisfied by Raphinha.

Frimpong’s contract at Bayer Leverkusen continues until the summer of 2028.

However, the Netherlands international’s deal with the Bundesliga champions includes a €40 million release clause.

The amount would be greater than Manchester City’s €25-30 million asking price for Joao Cancelo’s permanent sale

this summer.

So, it will be interesting to watch which way Barcelona goes, given that Flick wants Frimpong and Joan Laporta and

co. may prefer Cancelo due to their ties to Jorge Mendes.
