Southampton wants to sign a £15 million West Ham midfielder

AFTER announcing his retirement from sport, former Saints defender Ryan Bertrand stated he would be “forever grateful”.

The 34-year-old Bertrand played for Southampton for 240 games before his contract expired in 2021.

After that, he played two seasons at Leicester City, where he once again teamed up with Brendan Rodgers. After departing the Foxes in 2023, he hasn’t been with a team since.

Bertrand is now focused on the commercial aspects of football and wants to help the game continue to “evolve.”

After announcing his retirement, the former full-back gave an explanation to Sky Sports, saying, “Just to be clear, I will be retiring from football.”

“Even though it has been a while, people still ask me the same questions: ‘When are you coming back, what are you doing?’

“I am officially retiring, and I am eager to move forward with the next phase of my life.”

It is quite unbelievable how something as simple as dreaming as a young child led to my achieving what I have.

“When I reflect, I will always be appreciative. I’ve always been ahead of the curve, and I’m really enthusiastic about the game’s business.

“I thought I had everything set up for an easy transfer. I am really anticipating that. I choose to go on the upcoming adventure.

“I had the good fortune to analyze the game and choose my goals and next course of action.

“I’m starting the process of doing that right now. I have an obsession with sports business.

“I can definitely see myself asking, ‘How can I help football evolve?'” There is a bright future ahead.”
