West Ham United are in pole position to sign AS Roma’s star striker amidst competition from big clubs.

Matias Soulé has been connected with approximately half of the Premier League over the last few months, with Juventus hoping to transfer the talented Argentine for a good price.

The 21-year-old attacker spent last season on loan at Frosinone, and despite his high valuation, Juve want to cash in so that the funds may be spent elsewhere.

West Ham has been the club most firmly associated recently, and Corriere dello Sport has set up a showdown between the Hammers and AS Roma.

According to the Italian daily, Roma has just made contact with Soule’s entourage. The goal is to determine whether he is interested in the transfer.

They apparently got a very positive answer, and Corriere dello Sport state the player ‘would come running to Rome’.

That’s partly because his compatriots Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes are at the club, but also because he feels Daniele De Ross’s tactics would suit his style.

West Ham are presented as the competition, with Borussia Dortmund getting a mention too.

One thing can be pretty certain, Roma won’t rush in to pay Juventus’ €40m asking price. Earlier this week we covered an Italian report which said West Ham are prepared to pay just over half that.
