Despite being without a team this month, Simon Moore appears certain to make a quick return

to the Championship with Sunderland.
The Black Cats are keen to add some backup for Anthony Patterson but are unlikely to make any significant additions until after their excruciatingly drawn-out hunt for a new management is over.

The Northern Echo reports that Moore, who will become the only player on Wearside in his 30s,

is “closing in” on Sunderland.

With his father serving as manager of Isle of Wight League team Brading Town, Simon

Moore’s football career started out like to a fairytale.

Following his 2008 arrival at Farnborough, he earned a transfer to Brentford, who had just been

promoted to League One.

Moore’s breakout season didn’t come until 2012–13, when he helped the Bees advance to the play-off

final but ultimately lost to Yeovil Town despite recording 13 clean sheets.

Due to his exceptional play, he was sent on loan to Bristol City after struggling to get regular playing time in the Premier League with Cardiff City.
