Kristjaan Speakman‘s exit discussed after Club’s first summer transfer deal

Goalie Alex Bass has confirmed his permanent departure from Sunderland.

Following a fruitful season in League Two on loan at AFC Wimbledon, Bass has now

signed a deal to join Notts County for an amount not yet disclosed.

Following the team’s promotion from League One, Bass moved from Portsmouth to Sunderland,

but he was unable to push Anthony Patterson up the ladder.
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman of Sunderland stated that the decision made sense

for everyone involved, especially considering the young goalkeepers coming through the club’s system.

Adam Richardson is another a highly regarded player, and Matty Young had a really successful loan

season at Darlington last year.

“Alex had a great loan last season and he is eager to continue playing regular

football going forward,” Speakman stated. We decided that this transfer was the wisest course of

action for everyone involved after debating a number of options moving into the summer,

taking into account both Alex’s future and the ongoing development of our younger goalkeepers.
