JUST IN: UEFA could shut stadium roof for England vs Denmark to avoid danger of game being delayed

Due to inclement weather, England’s Euro 2024 group match versus Denmark is anticipated to

be played under cover.

Prior to the Group C match, which takes place on Thursday, June 20 at 5 p.m. and will be televised

live on talkSPORT, UEFA is cautious about the weather.

The Waldstadion roof is currently closed, and on Wednesday night, the Danish players are scheduled

to rehearse on the pitch.

Since inclement weather has already marred Euro 2024, UEFA is bracing for similar conditions on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a severe weather advisory was issued for Germany’s central and western areas.

The severe weather forced the closure of several fanzones in Gelsenkirchen, Dusseldorf, and

Dortmund.

The organisers of Cologne also made adjustments based on the weather, as stated in a statement

they provided.

It said as follows: “All events and functions of the Host City Cologne associated with the European Championships have to be cancelled for today due to an official storm warning that was issued in the

late morning with heavy rain, hail, and strong wind gusts expected.”

“Yesterday evening, the essential discussions with the security partners were held, and the necessary steps to safeguard the venues were started. Tuesday morning, following more discussion with the German Weather Service, the decision was reached to cancel all events.”

Dominik Jung, a meteorologist, told the German news agency BILD that there had even been a

possible “risk to life” and that the closures were required to be prepared for any eventuality.

He warned, “There is a risk to life,” prior to the matches, which were played two days before

England’s match. “Although we don’t now know every location that might be affected, we do know

the general area.

“The same complaints will be made: ‘We had nothing.'” However, it’s best to be cautious than sorry.”

After winning their first game against Serbia 1-0, Gareth Southgate’s team will be looking for their second victory of the competition as they take to the field.

In the meantime, Denmark will be looking for their first victory after losing their opening match to Slovenia 1–1.
