Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has admitted that he would like England teammate Marc Guehi to join the Magpies this summer.

The Crystal Palace defender made his competition debut for England against Serbia at Euro 2024. After Harry Maguire was left out of the tournament squad, the Chelsea academy product contributed to his team’s clean sheet in only his 12th cap.

Guehi has often earned admirers, and this summer is no exception after guiding the Eagles to a top-half finish under Oliver Glasner. Newcastle have been linked with a bid for the 23-year-old, as have Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool.

Gordon, who has previously played with Guehi for England’s Under-21 side, could not speak highly enough of the Palace star. He reckons Newcastle, who have already landed Lloyd Kelly this summer but missed out on Tosin Adarabioyo, would be improved by Guehi’s arrival.

“He is top,” Gordon told TalkSport. “He’s such a talented player. I’m pleased the rest of the country got to see him shine on that stage because he’s such a nice guy who deserves everything he gets.

“I felt he was fantastic in that game, given his height compared to the forwards they had on. He won every header, was aggressive, intercepted numerous passes, and his greatest strength is his ball control; he’s similar to a midfielder, so him and Stones at the back make an excellent combination.

“I haven’t seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I would love him to come, as I think he’s a top, top player and he would make us a better team.”
