After starting “talks” with a free agent, Sunderland may be about to make their first summer acquisition.

As they search for a new manager, Sunderland’s summer transfer market has been essentially nonexistent.

The Black Cats prioritize hiring a new head coach over making many trades during the transfer window, which opened last week.

Journalist Alan Nixon reports that goalkeeper Simon Moore is currently “in talks” to join Sunderland.

“Managerless Sunderland are in talks with experienced Coventry keeper Simon Moore,” he posted on his Patreon page.

Before joining Brentford in 2009, Moore rose through the non-league ranks.

There, he assisted the team in winning both the Football League Trophy and the League One play-offs.

Since then, he has played for Sheffield United, Cardiff City, and Bristol City.

He joined Coventry City in 2021 and played in 41 games during his first campaign.

He will be released this summer, though, having only made three appearances since the 2021–2022 season.

Nathan Bishop, whose sole senior football experience has been at Southend United and Mansfield Town,

is Patterson’s backup at Sunderland right now.

Alex Bass, meanwhile, might depart permanently after making an impression at AFC Wimbledon while on loan.

Patterson needs an experienced mentor to help him grow, even though it’s still unknown if he’ll stay at Sunderland this summer.

Although the 24-year-old is obviously highly good, he lacks a role model like most of the team.

There is little doubt that the goalkeeping staff needs both a younger and an experienced player,

but Patterson’s development may be hampered by Sunderland’s absence from the locker room.

Tom Heaton is a member of Manchester United, and Scott Carson recently agreed to a new deal at Man City.

Although neither player will play in the Premier League, they can provide the younger players with valuable leadership and experience.
