Leeds United set for double financial boost amid £10m man possible permanent exit
Leeds United will hope to get their house in order before strengthening Daniel Farke’s squad
Despite having the possibility of another loan agreement, rumors in Spain indicate that Real Betis are eager to sign
Marc Roca permanently, which might provide Leeds United with an unexpected cash boost.
Upon United’s relegation to the Championship last summer, Roca was among numerous players who forced their
way out of Elland Road, activating a loan clause in their contract. The 27-year-old made an impression when he
joined Betis in July of last year, making 32 appearances in both the La Liga and the Europa League.
Long-term reports have indicated that Roca will stay at Betis, and following Leeds’ defeat by Southampton in the
play-off final, there was speculation the midfield player might trigger his loan clause once again to extend his stay in
Seville by one more year.
Although the Spanish publication Marca asserts that clause exists, it also states that Manu Fajardo, the sporting
director of Betis, “intentionally” wants to commit the Leeds player to a long-term, permanent contract.
According to the source, Betis has “raised the possibility” of a permanent contract with Leeds during “conversations”
about the specifics of another loan season. The Spanish team is intent on keeping the technical midfielder for the
long run and does not see the necessity for another temporary period. But for this to operate, a fee agreement
between the two clubs must be reached, and a further 12-month loan period must be kept as a backup plan.
The amount that Betis could be ready to pay is not specified, but with the security of another loan spell, it’s possible
that they see a chance to lower the asking price. It remains to be known how low Leeds will sink, but there is hope
that the majority, if not all, of the £10 million investment may be recovered.
Roca, who played the entire 90 minutes in Betis’ season-ending 0-0 draw against champion Real Madrid at the end
of May, is currently on vacation. It is hoped that a decision would have been made by July 8, when manager Manuel
Pellegrini will welcome his players back for pre-season.
