Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Simon Moore is being linked with a move to Sunderland, where he will serve as a backup to current Blades transfer target Anthony Patterson, according to Alan Nixon’s report.

The 34-year-old made no appearances in any competition for Coventry City last season and will leave the Sky Blues this summer once his contract ends at the end of this month.

Moore was vital in United’s fast climb under Chris Wilder in the 2016/17 League One season, when he helped Sheffield United reach 100 points.

Moore appeared in 70 games across all competitions during his four-year tenure with the club, keeping 23 clean sheets.

The Blades already have a goalkeeping quandary, and bringing in an experienced Championship stopper like Moore, who is still a beloved name among Blades fans, would not hinder their depth between the posts.

And, while Moore wishes for a reunion at Bramall Lane, Chris Wilder’s hands are currently tied due to the prospective takeover, which is being handled by the EFL. Previous reports indicate that negotiations with free agents Alan Browne and Gabriel Osho have halted. With that in mind, expect an update on the outcome over the next two weeks.
