Xabi Alonso has succeeded Jürgen Klopp on a four-year contract, as the club accepts terms.

Xabi Alonso will remain with Bayer Leverkusen for the upcoming season; the head coach was reportedly a top candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool this summer, and Alonso was also highly sought after by Bayern Munich.

At the top of the Bundesliga, Leverkusen leads Bayern by 10 points at the moment.

Xabi Alonso has put an end to rumors that he would replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer by confirming he will stay as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen for the upcoming campaign.

The Spaniard informed Bayern Munich, who were also interested in the 42-year-old, that he would stay at Leverkusen,

where he has led them to the brink of the Bundesliga title this season, according to an earlier report from Sky Germany.

“We’ve had a lot of speculation regarding my future this season,

but up until now we’ve had so many games, so we’ve been pretty busy and focused,” Alonso stated during the press conference on Friday,

one day before his team’s matchup with Hoffenheim on Saturday.

“Last week, I held a productive meeting with Simon [Rolfes, managing director] and Fernando [Carro, CEO] to discuss my intention to proceed as Bayer Leverkusen’s coach.

My goal was to utilize the international break to make a decision.”

“You must undoubtedly thoroughly analyze every decision you make.

I make an effort to accept the ones that come to me naturally.

This is the best course of action for my coaching development.

Even though I’m a young coach, I think this is the ideal environment for me right now.

“All the departments treat me with a great deal of respect,

and the fans have been really supportive this year as well as during our challenging times last year.”

“The players, without a doubt, give me so many reasons to continue believing in the team.

I have a fantastic staff that supports me every day in my efforts to work better, prepare the team, and enhance it.
